1.Favorite hunt of all time?My favorite hunt of all time has to be an season archery elk hunt with my brother Boyd. We packed in 5 or 6 miles with the horses and set up a great base camp. We were hunting labor day weekend the first few days of September and woke up to over 1 foot of snow on the second morning of our hunt. Boyd killed a great bull on that trip and we had a great time reading scooby-doo jokes off the snickers wrappers in the evenings. This was also one of the first times I started dragging a video camera around with the intention of filming a hunt.
Brother Boyd. The kids a killer. He’s killed as many animals with his recurve bow as I have with any weapon combined. Not really but he is a killer.
3.How did you get into hunting?
A retired marine named Carl VanDusen moved into our little valley and had a cool car and cool bows and arrows. My brothers and I were helping Dad do a carpet job for Carl one day and we all fell in love with all the arrow building stuff. He helped fit us all with bows and arrows and got us started. I was 12 and my younger brothers were 8 and 11.
4.Favorite animal to harvest?
To date it has been the Tahr I just hunted in New Zealand. I did it unguided on public land. There are lots of animals I would like to take at some point in time but I don’t have the budget.
5.Weapon of choice?
Compound bow every time. I like to smack something with the gun but Archery is always my first choice.
6.Favorite Badlands product?
Sacrifice Pack. It just fits my style. Simplicity is king.
7.What was your scariest hunting moment?
Probably the day I had to hammer a charging black bear at 7 feet while deer hunting. Good thing I was rifle hunting and not bow hunting that day. Or the day a black bear took down a whitetail deer I arrowed in North Idaho and when I tried to scare him off the carcas he kept hoofing and mock charging me. I hate bears.
8.What’s the most important thing (things) in your life?
Kelly, Hudson, Gracie and Sophia. Wife, Son and Daughters. Hands down!
9.What’s your biggest fear?
Losing any one of my children.
10.What would you do if you won a million dollars?
Add it to my other million dollars that I don’t have.
11.Favorite movie of all time?
I am not a movie guy at all. Couldn’t care less about it. No favorites.
12.What’s something people don’t know about you?
I have a severe case of social anxiety. Whenever I’m in a public gathering I have to plan out my escape route before I can even think about anything else. If anything hits the fan you can follow me boys cause I’ll be the first one headed to the hills.
13.Describe yourself in 1 word.
14.Favorite memory of all time?
The day my Son was born.
15.Do you like sports? If so, what’s your favorite sports team?
I used to back in the days of high school and college. Now I just like to lay golf and play catch with my son. Probably the Trampoline is my favorite sport now days.
16.If you could be or do anything in the world, who/what would it be?
I’m a Dad to my kids. That’s the best thing about life.
17.Is there anything else you’d like to say about yourself?
18.Favorite rock band?
Same thing as with movies. Couldn’t care less. I like good tunes but it can vary from George Straight to Metallica.
Fishing, Golf and Backpacking.
20.Favorite place to travel?
I love going home to Mom and Dads in Moore, Idaho and just doing nothing. Hearing the irrigation sprinklers on a quiet night, the livestock and the smell of fresh cut alfalfa can’t be beat in my opinion.
