Recently, we were looking over our herd of Merino sheep, when someone suggested “let’s make the ultimate Merino wool piece.” Thus, the Variant Merino Hoodie was born. Our exclusive DuraSpun Merino combines the toughness of Cordura® with everything we all love about Merino wool. We didn't stop there. The Variant's Cordura® panels add toughness. Its terry lining adds softness. The kangaroo pocket carries stuff. Over-engineering: it's kind of our thing.

MERINO WOOL
Naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant, the wool of a Merino sheep is thinner and softer than regular wool. What really sets it apart from other materials is its naturally odor-resistant and moisture-wicking capabilities. It's not just ultra-comfortable — it's ultra-smart.

Reviews

Solid hoodie

"Athletic fit and definitely more of a base layer but it’s been really great for turkey season definitely my comfiest hoodie only drawback is I haven’t had it super long and the hoodie pouch is already unraveling at the seem. Also if you have badlands og color it’s same colors but quite a bit lighter which was a surprise. Wish it was a little darker."

Couldn't design one better if i tried

"I have the xl black version and I can use just this and a vest down into single digits while working on the farm. 100% my go to for anything I do when its cold. Had it for maybe 2 years now and its not giving up on me yet. Will probably buy another one when my size comes back in stock just to have one I keep clean"

"I haven’t worn this yet. I ordered a size too small and I’m waiting for them to be back in stock so I can order a large. I bought on for my son for Christmas and he loves it. So I have to have one also."

Janna D. (5/5)

The hoode is tight but

"The hoode is tight but good for an under layer I have long arms for my size and this fits. I usually have to get a xlt to fit me right and not the case with this line badlands you Got it right thanks"

Aron S. (5/5)

Stay Warm!

"I have been wearing marino wool for years, very warm. My original gear is showing it's age, replacing everything with Badlands. This shirt is very warm and comfortable."

Hoodie - merino

"Runs small in size, would rate it as light weight warmth at most. I was not at all impressed with it had it not been regular price. . . . Would have returned it!!! Nothing to write home about in comfort either as have 40 hoodies softer grade D at best. Should be priced around 40 USD"

Q&A

When I hear Merino I think baselayer. Is this a baselayer or more a sweatshirt that I could fit an ovis long sleeve or tshirt underneath it? If I wanted this as an outer layer should I size up?
Scott, this hoodie was designed to be more of a mid-layer. You can absolutely wear it as an outer layer as well! I would order whatever size sweatshirt that you normally wear!
Does the garment provide any wind resistance?
Matthew, this piece does not have wind resistant qualities.
Is this a snug fit or loose fit i normally wear large?
Jarrett, if you normally wear a large then I'd also recommend a large for this piece as well.
Any of the Pecora lineup wind resistant?
Kerry, the Pecora line is designed to be a base layer and does not have wind resistant qualities.
